Ancaster is one of the oldest settled communities in the Hamilton area, dating back to the late 18th century, and it became part of the City of Hamilton in 2001. It combines a historic village core, established neighbourhoods, newer suburban areas and rural properties. It's a popular choice for buyers who want space and a quieter setting while staying close to Hamilton, Burlington and the 403.

Ancaster neighbourhoods at a glance

  • Ancaster Village: The historic core along Wilson Street, where development has been tightly controlled to protect its character, with local shops and restaurants.
  • Meadowlands: A suburban area bounded by Highway 403 and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway to the north, Garner Road to the south, Stone Church Road to the east and Southcote Road to the west, with family homes and major shopping close by.
  • Established residential streets: Older neighbourhoods around the village with mature trees and larger lots.
  • Rural Ancaster: Country properties and estate lots on the edges of the community.

Lifestyle and commuting

Ancaster sits on the Niagara Escarpment, with Tiffany Falls Conservation Area on Wilson Street East and the Dundas Valley Conservation Area's trail network, including the Hermitage area on Sulphur Springs Road, close by. Highway 403, whose Hamilton–Ancaster section was finished in 1968, and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway connect residents to Hamilton, Burlington and beyond.

Schools

Ancaster is served by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, with private schools in the wider area. Confirm the school for any address with the board.

Who Ancaster suits

Ancaster suits move-up buyers who want a larger home or lot, families who want established neighbourhoods and trails close by, and downsizers who want to stay in a quiet, well-kept community near the village.
