- HighwaysQEW, 403
- GOHamilton GO Centre, West Harbour (Lakeshore West)
Hamilton offers one of the widest ranges of homes in the region, from century houses in the lower city to family neighbourhoods on the Mountain above the escarpment. Its current boundaries date from January 1, 2001, when six municipalities amalgamated, so the city also includes Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook and Stoney Creek. Its arts scene, waterfalls and trails have drawn buyers from across the GTA.
Hamilton neighbourhoods at a glance
- Westdale and Ainslie Wood: Leafy streets beside McMaster University, with character homes and a small village shopping strip in Westdale.
- Kirkendall and Locke Street: Heritage homes close to the Locke Street cafés, shops and restaurants.
- Durand: Grand historic homes and condos close to downtown and Hess Village.
- James Street North: Hamilton's arts district, with galleries and studios and the monthly Art Crawl and annual Supercrawl.
- The Mountain: Many family neighbourhoods above the escarpment, with a mix of bungalows, back-splits and two-storey homes.
Lifestyle and commuting
Hamilton is home to more than 100 waterfalls and cascades, most of them on or near the Bruce Trail, along with the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Commuters use the QEW and Highway 403, and the Lakeshore West GO line serves West Harbour and the Hamilton GO Centre.
Schools
Hamilton is served by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, plus French and private options. It's also home to McMaster University, Mohawk College and Redeemer University. Confirm the school for any address with the board.
