Dundas is nicknamed the Valley Town because it sits at the bottom of a valley below the Niagara Escarpment. It has been part of the City of Hamilton since 2001, but it still feels like its own small town, with a walkable downtown, character homes and conservation lands on almost every side. Buyers often fall for it on their first visit.

Dundas neighbourhoods at a glance

  • Downtown Dundas: King Street West, with independent shops, cafés and the Carnegie Gallery, housed in the town's 1910 Carnegie library building. Older homes line the nearby streets.
  • Established residential streets: Neighbourhoods around the core with mature trees, many century and mid-century homes, and quick access to trails.
  • The escarpment edge: Streets climbing toward the escarpment and the Spencer Gorge, with green space and views.

Lifestyle and commuting

The Spencer Gorge is home to Tew's Falls, Webster's Falls and the Dundas Peak lookout. They have separate parking and trail areas, and reservations are required in the busy fall season. The Dundas Valley Conservation Area offers about 40 km of trails, including part of the Bruce Trail, and the Dundas Valley School of Art adds to the town's creative streak. Hamilton's GO stations and highways are a short drive away.

Schools

Dundas is served by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, and McMaster University is nearby in west Hamilton. Confirm the school for any address with the board.

Who Dundas suits

Dundas suits families who want a walkable small-town feel, nature lovers, and buyers who value character homes and an established community. Because Dundas hasn't expanded into the protected Dundas Valley, there's limited new construction, so buyers should expect older homes and be ready to move when the right one comes up.
